“I believe that all organizing is science fiction – that we are shaping the future we long for and have not yet experienced.”
“I believe our imaginations—particularly the parts of our imaginations that hold what we most desire, what brings us pleasure, what makes us scream yes—are where we must seed the future, turn toward justice and liberation, and reprogram ourselves to desire sexually and erotically empowered lives.”
― adrienne maree brown, Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good
“The erotic has often been misnamed by men and used against women. It has been made into the confused, the trivial, the psychotic, the plasticized sensation. For this reason, we have often turned away from the exploration and consideration of the erotic as a source of power and information, confusing it with its opposite, the pornographic…The erotic is a measure between the beginnings of our sense of self and the chaos of our strongest feelings. It is an internal sense of satisfaction to which, once we have experienced it, we know we can aspire.”
― Audre Lorde, Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power
The body knows, the body keeps count…This collective reading session explores excerpts from two critical texts by adrienne maree brown and Audre Lorde on pleasure activism and the erotic sensuality, opening questions on where bodily and sensorial explorations might afford creative renewal and inspiration, while centring the discussion on the embodied experiences/energy of Asian, BlPOC bodies.
