I’m looking forward to joining Foreshadowing’s annual gathering, Tending Underneath, this July.

This year’s gathering focuses on our feelings rather than our practices, redeeming emotional complexities as fundamental grounds for building eco-grief companionship. Bringing together artists, writers, organisers, and practitioners working around wounded landscapes and communities, the day invites us to collectively witness ecological loss while creating spaces for care, solidarity, and planetary love.

As part of the programme, I’ll be facilitating Water as Time together with Sun Park.

Our session is a collective divination using tarot and oracle cards to scry the waters of eco-grief — its reflective mirror and the depths of what we have not yet named — drawing out shared questions and thresholds that will be gathered into a 32-card deck as a legacy of the annual gathering.

I’m honoured to be part of this year’s programme alongside Youngsook Choi and the Foreshadowing eco-grief council, together with an incredible group of artists and practitioners whose work explores grief, ecology, storytelling, listening, food, writing, and collective imagination.

Welcome & Housekeeping
Hannah Davey & Sandra Ata

10:30–11:45

13:00–14:00
Lunch – The Act of Staying
Tintin Jonsson (Swilipino)

A two-course vegan buffet reflecting on tending to what we love, not because the future is certain, but because our actions matter.

14:00–15:00
Water as Time
Annie Jael Kwan & Sun Park

Collective divination using tarot and oracle cards to scry the waters of eco-grief — its reflective mirror and the depths of what has not yet been named — drawing out shared questions and thresholds to contribute towards a collective 32-card deck.

15:00–16:00
Map of Loss
Chiara Famengo & Youngsook Choi

Collectively mapping experiences of ecological loss and climate anxiety, bringing the map of loss into conversation with the earlier map of love.

16:00–16:15
Coffee / Tea Break

16:15–17:00
Sonic Witnessing
Zish

Participatory sound improvisation as a practice of witnessing shared feelings and stories, alongside recordings of extinct species, geological movements, and weathering.

17:00–17:15
Move to the Garden

17:15–18:30
Joy Production
Hannah Davey

A collective imaginarium for other realms and better worlds, ending the day with an embodied and joyful act of resistance and an evening picnic.

About Foreshadowing

Foreshadowing is a transnational eco-grief council, born from the necessity to collectively witness environmental degradation and the losses caused by the extractive operations of neo/colonial capitalism. Across continents and bodies of water, its members cultivate practices of collective witnessing, ecological care, and planetary solidarity.
