Open Call – Southeast Asia Performance Collection Research Commission

The research commission is for independent research to be undertaken in response to the Southeast Asia Performance Collection.

The Southeast Asia Performance Collection was initiated by the curatorial initiative, Something Human, and gathered and collated by a team of international scholars between 2015-2017. It holds digital materials related to performance from over 50 artists from Southeast Asia.

The collection resides in the Study Room at the Live Art Development Agency, and is open access to scholars, researchers, artists and curators that might be interested in the artistic practices from the region.

The research commission is to support an individual/or team of two to examine, interrogate and respond to the archival materials in relation to the suggested themes below:

·     language and issues of translation
·     writing, text, calligraphy, lithography
·     sound, voice and music
·     dance, the choreographic, liveness

The research commission offers a fee of £500 in total. The successful applicant will also be supported by the LADA and Something Human staff if desired.

To apply, please send to somethinghuman.info@gmail.coma CV and proposal outlining the research approach, interested list of artists, and proposed outcome (eg. a piece of critical writing) that could be added to the archive.

DEADLINE: 8 July 2019 5pm

The successful applicant will be notified by 22 July. The research commission is to be completed by 26 August 2019.
